Welcome To My Portfolio!

Hi, I'm Tina Smith,
an ATD Master Instructional Designer
Highly-motivated, creative, and results-oriented. Experienced in instructional design, training, client support, and project management. Able to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Accustomed to working remotely. Key contributor on several work-related teams.
How I Can Help You
Problem Solving
An instructional designer uses most of his/her time fixing problems. The problem always starts with a question in mind "What are the best ways to introduce these lessons to learners?". A good instructional designer will always search for the best way to meet the learner's goals and objectives using technology.
Project Management
Most of the time, an instructional designer works in a team. An eLearning project typically requires an instructional designer, a developer, and a graphic designer. I've been known to wear all three hats at the same time! When collaborating with stakeholders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and vendors through phases of development, it is important to have good project management skills.
Writing
An instructional designer spends a good deal of time writing from the analysis phase all the way to the evaluation phase (using the ADDIE model). I can gather information and write it so that it's easily understood. I also have experience creating storyboards, course objectives, and course documentation.
Facilitation
Most of the time an instructional designer comes with an educational background. More than half of them have been trainers. As an ATD Master Instructional Designer and Microsoft Office Specialist, I have a strong background as a technology trainer and a clear understanding of how the course to be built is going to be taught.
Development
While most instructional designers do not write code, it is important to know what programming is. I understand web technologies and occasionally use HTML and JavaScript to manipulate eLearning modules created with authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate. I also know how to SCORM content and have experience using and maintaining a learning management system.
Innovation
Innovation is an important skill for an instructional designer, especially when trying to create eLearning courses that are both engaging and informative. I am currently a member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD). I also participate in various conferences and social media platforms to remain up to date on the latest educational theories and standards for development.
